![]() Carrer Ample |
This is possibly the street with most history in the town. Here we find the Town Hall, built in 1906 thanks to the legacy of the Golart-Palau family, as well as majestic houses of the americanos. Two of the clearest examples are Can Font and Can Busquets, built in the late 19th century and clearly neoclassical in inspiration. However, one of the most interesting buildings is Can Mir. From the 15th century to 1906, it was just another house, but in that year the owner wanted to restore it and give it a mediaeval air. |
![]() 1830 - 2007 Carrer Sant Marc |
Canet cemetery is the result of a law from 1830 obliging burials to be done in the outskirts. The location was the Tinoia field at the top of a small hill. Inside the graveyard you can see some pieces made by prestigious artists. You cannot miss the Busquets pantheon built between 1906 and 1909 in a very gentle Modernist style. Lluís Domènech i Montaner designed three pantheons: those of the Font Montaner, Montaner Malató and Domèmech i Montaner families. |

The Pedracastell cross dates back to 1901, when Pope Leo XIII called for crosses to be set up to commemorate the new century. In 1902 a cross was erected that was designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner and promoted by Marià Serra. However, this monument fell in 1926 in strong winds. The second cross was a copy of the first and was raised one year later. With the war, the anarchist movement decided to demolish it in July 1936. The present cross is from 1954 and was built on the initiative of a group of young catholics. |
![]() 1914 Josep Cabruja Escales del Sant Crist |
These are the 40 most famous steps in Canet. Planned in 1914 byJosep Cabruja to replace the existing ramp, they are accompanied on the left by a house with classical elements and on the right by the ceramic mosaic with the figure of Christ on the Cross (the original was by Ramon Puig i Gairalt and was destroyed in the Civil War) and a modernist iron and glass street lamp. |
![]() 1579 i 1591 Onofre Anrich Plaça de l`Església |
The arrival of people from the Montnegre in Canet meant that a new parish church had to be made. The building was built between 1579 and 1591 under the direction of Onofre Anrich, although the present church is the result of numerous refurbishments. The most important one was made between 1940 and 1946, when the whole of the crossing had to be rebuilt as it had fallen in the Civil War. |
![]() 1917 Passeig de la Misericòrdia |
Before 1910 the Sanctuary of Mercy was reached on a winding path. It was in this year when the americano Josep Mora conceded the lands from the beginning of the passage to the current school of music. After some problems, in 1917 the final details were completed: the planting of banana trees, the installation of benches and the building of the fountain designed by Ramon Puig i Gairalt. |

Canet has a long and wide balcony overlooking the sea. The Esplanade is an excellent place to rest, walk or do sport. The whole area is lined with palms and other trees giving good shade in the summer. From May onwards, the bathers start to come to the beach attracted by the 2,100 metres of sand and the quality of the services such as the Red Cross, walkways for the disabled and a large number of 'chiringuitos' |
![]() Plaça de la Llenya / Riera Sant Domènec |
This area brings together the two principal dry rivers in Canet de Mar, the Gavarra and the Buscarons. Since 2002, the water has circulated through an underground passage and the whole of the area above has been closed to traffic. A large pedestrian island has therefore been created with unique views. To the south there is a Mediterranean and to the north you can see the Lluís Domènec i Montaner museum house. On either side there are also stately buildings such as Ca la Bianga and the Ateneu, built under the direction of Lluís Domènec i Montaner, and some houses of americanos. |
![]() 2005 Riera Buscarons |
Since the work to run the dry river underground, this space has become an area of commercial attraction. Numerous shops line both sides and with the new urban development, a large area has been created for pedestrians. Furthermore, the dry River also serves as an axis for the historical centre, as the oldest streets in the town start here, such as Carrer de l´Església and Carrer Saüc. La Buscarons opens out onto the Sant Domènec dry river, which has become a large balcony over the Mediterranean. |
![]() 1853 i 1857 Francesc Daniel Molina |
Canet de Mar's devotion to Mary is reflected in the majestic 'Santuari de la Misericòrdia' built between 1853 and 1857. The architect was Francesc Daniel Molina, who gave a Neogothic style to the whole project. This can clearly be seen in the facade, with a Gothic arch framing the entrance and a large rose window. The interior state is very different from the original because of the fire in 1936 which affected all of the wooden decoration, the paintings, the roof and the image of the virgin. The present paintings were made between 1997 and 2001, in an attempt to partially imitate those there previously were in the church. The Sanctuary is very well-known around the Maresme because many young couples are attracted by its majesty and marry there. |
