ROUTE OF THE AMERICANOS AND CEMETERY: Route of the "Americanos" (or "Indianos")
Approximate time: 2 hours and 30 minutes. Total distance: 2 km.
In Canet de Mar's historical centre there are many houses built by "indianos", people who had made their fortune in America. This route starts in the historical centre, climbs to the cemetery and ends at Vil·la Flora. Beside the sea is where we find these "indiano" or "americano" houses, as they are known in Canet, such as Can Font, Higini Negra, Can Busquets and the La Moderna shop. Once at the cemetery, there is an explanation of the numerous funeral monuments and modernist pantheons such as that of the Domènech i Montaner family and those of other families such as the Busquets, Pau Font, Casals i Roura, Santiñà and Domingo Pascual. The route goes on to the Vil·la Flora, an excellent example of late Modernism in Secession style, and the Pla de les Fonts, one of the best examples of the last stage of Modernism, both places planned by the architect Eduard Ferrés i Puig.
